The English Foxhound was developed using such breeds as the St. Hubert's hound, Talbot hound and several types of Terriers. They have been carefully bred since the mid -19th century and were used in packs to chase fox with hunters on horseback. They have impressive stamina and a good nose. They can run steadily for hours at a time. Some of the English Foxhound's talents are hunting, tracking, watchdogging and agility.
Foxhounds are said to be typical hounds: active, friendly, outgoing, craving company but once on a scent they are oblivious to all and deaf to their owners.
To the layman the foxhound is just a taller version of the Beagle.
They make lovely family dogs, enjoy the human company and are good with children. They are just wonderful as they pack to the family.

Grooming- The short, hard coat is easy to care for. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and shampoo only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder.

Exercise- This breed needs extensive daily running to be happy. It can become destructive if confined too much. They may take off after any interesting scent, so do not take the English Foxhound off its leash unless you are in a safe area.

Health- There are no significant diseases recorded for this breed. They are a hardy and sound animal. For Diet and other general dog health information Health/Nutrition
