About This Breed

The Pomeranian is known to have existed around the eighteenth century in Germany. They resemble the much larger sled-pulling Spitz type dogs from the Arctic Circle, from which they have descended.

It was deliberately bred down in size when toys and miniatures were very popular. Enjoying the company of human or canine companionship they are a natural extrovert. Making them one of the most popular Toy breeds.

They love being petted and to be active and playful. They are an affectionate and faithful little dog that makes an excellent companion.

General Characteristics

Appearance: Small sized body. Small fox-like face with dark slightly oval shaped eyes and little triangular shaped erect ears. Tail bushy and curls up on to the back.

Temperament: Extrovert, lively and intelligent.

Characteristics: Sound, vivacious and dainty.

Colour: Orange, Orange Sable, Red, Red Sable, white, black, brown, blue, cream or Parti-Colour.

Coat: Double Coat, Undercoat – Soft & Fluffy. Outer coat – Straight, long & harsh.

Grooming: Daily brushing of the long double coat is needed to prevent matting. Monthly bathing is recommended. Shedding is once or twice a year. Clean eyes, ears and teeth regularly.

Exercise: regular plays and walks will keep them fit and happy.

Health: This breed as like all toy breeds can suffer from patella luxation. Caesarean sections are possible if the female is small, will lose teeth if not well cared for.
