About This Breed

The Skye Terrier’s name comes from the Isle of Skye off the west coast of Scotland. They were a working terrier. Their long coats protected them from the rough edges of rocks and their face hair protected their eyes. They were very popular in the late 19th century even Queen Victoria owned a pair.

Very loyal and can be pretty much a one-person dog and are often very wary of strangers. They are quite sensitive and can tell by your tone whether they have done right or wrong.s

General Characteristics

Appearance: Small sized long body, with short legs. Eyes dark and ears can be either erect or flop down. Long coated tail.

Temperament: Loyal, Sensitive A ‘one-person’ dog, distrustful of strangers, never vicious.

Characteristics: Elegant and dignified.

Colour: Black, grey, cream or fawn.

Coat: Outer coat – long and straight. Undercoat – short, soft and woolly.

Grooming: Weekly brushing is needed to keep the long coat from becoming matted. They may be clipped to length that suits you. Bath when necessary.

Exercise: regular exercise is needed to keep them happy and fit.
