About This Breed

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was unfortunately breed for bull baiting and dog fighting, these dogs are not savage by nature but through training from puppy hood soon learned to do what their owners wanted. These pastimes were outlawed and they were used more for hunting and guarding.

They are affectionate, fearless and reliable, they are very much people orientated and are much happier in the domestic environment. Great with children, often referred to as the Nanny Dog, they are intelligent, want to please you which makes them easy to train.

General Characteristics

Appearance: Medium sized muscular body. Broad head with short muzzle, eyes dark to hazel, ears either semi erect or rose shaped. Tail is medium length. Smooth coated, well balanced, of great strength for their size. Muscular, active and agile.

Temperament: Bold, fearless and totally reliable.

Characteristics: Traditionally of indomitable courage and tenacity. Highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children.

Colour: Black, Brindle, Red, White, Blue & Fawn. Some colours may have white markings.

Coat: Short and smooth.

Grooming: Easy to care for a brush now and then is all that is needed. Bath when needed.

Exercise: Plenty of regular exercise will keep them fit and happy.

Health: This breed can suffer from breathing problems and become overheated in very hot weather.
