Norwegian Budhund

About This Breed

This breed is closely related to the Norwegian Elkhound. “Budhund” means farm dog in Norwegian and this is what they are used for, their main duties being herding and rounding up livestock, poultry and even people. These versatile dogs are good with children. They are fearless and brave and make good guard dogs.

General Characteristics

Appearance: Medium sized body. Wedge shaped head, with dark eyes. Ears are erect. Tail curls up over onto the back.

Temperament: Fearless, brave and energetic.

Characteristics: Well balanced, medium size, free from exaggeration, and capable of arduous work.

Colour: Wheaten, Black, Red or wolf-sable with or without a mask.

Coat: Harsh outer coat, Soft undercoat.

Grooming: A brush once a week is all that is needed, with a bit of extra care when they shed their coat. Bath when needed.

Exercise: plenty of exercise is needed to keep them from becoming bored.
