About This Breed

The Pharaoh Hound was found in Tutankhamen’s tomb and it is clear that these hounds were closely associated with the early Egyptian rulers. They have remained unchanged for centuries.

They are very alert, keen hunters who hunt by scent as well as sight. Their excellent hearing makes them a good watchdog. They are playful and affectionate.

General Characteristics

Appearance: The Pharaoh Hound is medium sized, of noble bearing with clean-cut lines. Graceful yet powerful. Very fast with free easy movement and alert expression.

Temperament: An intelligent, friendly affectionate, playful and alert breed.

Characteristics: An alert keen hunter, the Pharaoh Hound hunts by scent and sight using its large ears to a marked degree when working close.

Colour: Rich roan with a white tail tip.

Coat: Short & glossy.

Grooming: Their coat requires little care a brush now and then or a wipe over with a damp cloth is enough to keep it looking nice. Bath when needed.

Exercise: regular exercise is needed, daily walks and free runs off lead.
