About This Breed

Griffon Bruxellois, pronounced Bruce-ell-waa. It is believed that the Griffin Bruxellios has descended from a soft-coated Belgium street dog and crosses with the Affenpinschers. They were breed for the purpose of keeping the stables free of rats.

As their appearance improved they became more popular and people took them in. This dog’s personality is one that can easily win you over; they can display the love and sensitivity one side and then do a turn around and become stubborn and demanding on the other.

General Characteristics

Appearance: A well balanced, square little dog. Monkey like face, eyes are dark. Ears semi erect. Tail short & erect.

Temperament: Independent, Loving, Sensitive, Lively and alert.

Characteristics: Smart little dog with disposition of a terrier. Have a monkey-like expression, heavy for size.

Colour: Clear red, black or black and rich tan without white markings. In clear red, a darker shade on mask and ears desirable.

Coat: Rough- (Bruxellois) Harsh & wiry. Smooth- (Petit Brabancon) Close & short.

Grooming: The rough coat needs stripping periodically, otherwise both coat types are easy to care for with a brush and a wash when needed.

Exercise: regular walks and plays are enough to keep this breed happy.
