About This Breed

The Weimaraner’s origin is from Germany, they are the oldest German pointing breed, and has been pure bred for around 100 years. They were bred to hunt both large and small game in all types of weather.

Besides the shorthaired Weimaraner, even before the turn of the century, there appeared a longhaired variety, although only now and then.

They are highly intelligent and once trained make a very obedient, loving companion. They tend to excel in all fields of obedience, agility and tracking. They can also become bored with repetitive exercises as they prefer challenges. They are generally good water dogs and love to swim. They are happiest when in a family situation and love to interact with the family. They become so much part of the family that sometimes they can suffer with separation anxiety. They are friendly but will be protective.
